Guy’s Story

Guy Hoskie was born in 1952 in Fort Defiance, Arizona and currently lives in Window Rock, Arizona. He remained at Fort Defiance until the 7th grade, at which time he was sent to Brigham City Indian School in Utah, where he remained until he graduated from high school. Guy has six brothers and two sisters, and is the middle child. In 1972, Guy joined the Army, and a year later met his wife , the sister of David Reeves. They have two sons, one who is a marine and one who works for the railroad. Guy worked for the Navajo Tribe in Window Rock, Arizona starting in 1975, and remained there until 2000. During this time, he silversmithed on the side. Guy learned silversmithing from his relatives, Sunshine Reeves and Andy Cadman, and has been creating jewelry since the early 1990's. In his spare time, Guy enjoys playing basketball. Guy's favorite pieces to create are bracelets and squash blossoms, and has made many of the stamps he uses in his silversmithing. Guy doesn't really get excited about entering his pieces in shows, he simply finds satisfaction in seeing his pieces being enjoyed and worn by people.
